LATSIS SYMPOSIUM 2001
 Combinatorial Optimization: Trends and Perspectives

This year the Latsis Symposium at EPFL will be devoted to discrete mathematics and organized in conjunction with the 3e Cycle Romand de Recherche Opérationnelle. The goal of this meeting is to present to a wide audience of non specialists some particularly exciting recent results in the field. Apart from their inherent elegance they have a lasting impact on all sorts of domains like computer science, engineering design, telecom, supply chain management, transportation, manufacturing, energy, environment, physics, life sciences, genomics and even literature… The speakers will be

Claude Berge (CNRS Paris), Vasek Chvátal (Rutgers), András Frank (ELTE Budapest), Komei Fukuda (EPF Lausanne/Zurich), Dorit Hochbaum (Berkeley), Rolf Möhring (TU Berlin), András Sebö (CNRS Grenoble), Leslie E. Trotter Jr. (Cornell Ithaca), Dominic Welsh (Oxford).

These worldwide leading experts will present tutorials on the field, its trends and perspectives. We are particularly pleased to have Claude Berge, who celebrates his 75th birthday this year, as our guest. His presentation to laypersons will show the contribution of algebraic and combinatorial theorems to the beauty and coherence of some new creations in French literature.
