The Association of European Operational Research Societies within IFORS

EURO wants information about you !

As you probably know, SVOR /ASRO is one of the 28 members of EURO, the association of the European OR societies. This implies that you are member of EURO if you belong to SVOR /ASRO !

During last EURO Council, which took place in Rotterdam at the beginning of July, EURO asked the member societies to furnish their membership directories in order to promote and provide individual services to the members of the OR societies. Several societies (among them the UK, the German, the Dutch) claim that there are legal problems in providing such an information. Two not exclusive solutions are foreseen. The first consists in asking the member societies to push their members to register on the new EURO web site (www.euro-online.org). The second consists in asking the member societies to create their own mailing servers in order to distribute individually EURO mailings.

• The above paragraph requires three additional comments :
• One example of individual service : Elsevier has proposed, for the members of EURO, a special rate for the electronic version of EJOR ( 95 Euro).
• EURO has a thesaurus, which aim is to spot active OR research units from conferences organised by EURO. The rough material used as starting point is the databases of the four last EURO conferences (1995, 1997, 1998 and 2000). This thesaurus is very helpful for finding information, but cannot be use as a distribution list !

Currently, it is not possible to register directly on the new EURO web site.

In such conditions, the SVOR / ASRO office suggests to choose the second pro-posed solution (creation of a mailing list). This opportunity can also be taken to update our mail list.

Therefore, please update your registration now.
